I think you are dead on saying that people just need to start using Twitters etc.
I have to admit that Facebook and Twitter especially have not yet found a “value added” purpose for me. However, when the Olympic torch was carried through my town (I am in Canada) I grabbed my iPod Touch and was able to monitor the progress of the relay based on the Tweets. An other example: what did people think about Tiger Wood’s apology; I found myself reading Tweets again.
We are living huge shift in how we collaborate and experience our world. One has to play with the toys to be (and remain) well connected to the social environment. Perhaps also the physical environment??
